Why do Families Buy Their Food from Us?

We find there are several reasons people buy their food from us.

1) Welfare of the Animals
2) Healthfulness of the Food
3) Amazing taste of the Food
4) Farm Fresh and Local
5) Convenience

Most of our customers buy from us for some medley of the above reasons.  Although most are aware of all of these positives  -- most customers have one of the above reasons that outweighs all of the others.  The one that if I asked, "Why do you choose our meat to feed your family?" it would be their answer.

But the reality is a little more complex than that.  All of these things are intertwined and reliant on the others. Our animals do live a fantastic life just as they would in nature -- outside in harmony with nature.  This produces an incredibly nutritious meat because the animal has eaten the food on which it has evolved to flourish - therefore, keeping it's own body in balance and creating the most nourishing food possible.

This healthy balanced food also has an amazing taste for those very same reasons -- it's diverse and nature-chosen food sources create complex and deep taste sensations that go beyond the bland meat we have become used to buying at the store and having to work a virtual magic show of spices and rubs to give it flavor.  Meat raised correctly already has this flavor in every bite.

Raising food this way takes immense effort however and can only be accomplished on small local farms that sell directly to the consumer.  Large industrial scale agriculture simply cannot care for the animals in the way locally supported farms can.  By knowing the farmer directly, you are able to buy the food very conveniently and stock up for the season.

So although you may choose to buy Synergistic Acres' Meat because of one reason above all others, please know that as an added bonus, you are also accomplishing a lot of other goals all at once.

Pasture Raised Meats are Seasonal

Graph showing how many eggs were produced and sold from our farm.

Just look at the graph above.  It represent the numbers of dozen eggs we sold each week.  You will see that in the winter we get very few eggs, but that changes dramatically once spring begins thinking about summer.  This is a great graphical explanation of when you farm in sync with Nature like we do, you have to accept that the seasons dictate the best timing.  Winter may not be the time for pasture raised eggs.

However, winter is the time for pasture raised pork since our pigs are always at their healthiest and most tasty when the weather gets cold and they start laying on the extra flavorful and delicious fat.  This also coincides when their diet is at it's peak diversity -- adding even more flavor.

As Spring arrives and the green grass starts growing, it will be time to order your pasture raised chickens which we'll have throughout the summer and fall when forage is plentiful.

Early summer brings us to the time when we grass fed beef becomes available.

Eating with the seasons goes beyond just your vegetables, it can also be considered when buying your meat and eggs.

You are the KEY to Synergistic Acres' success

Happy New Year!

We are VERY excited about the prospects of what 2016 holds for our customers and our farm.

Our farm just reached a milestone in Late November as we had our official 4 year anniversary.  4 years means we have had just enough time that not everything is new anymore -- but not nearly enough time to not be continually surprised by new challenges.  Because they keep coming!

2016 will be a VERY IMPORTANT year for Synergistic Acres.  The farm has grown to a size now where it's customers will be a driving force in the direction it takes. We have spent four years acquiring breeding and raising stock to get our numbers up to where we have sufficient product to support farm operations. We have put in 10s of thousands of dollars in infrastructure to allow us to efficiently raise these animals outside on pasture in natural environments.  We have developed systems that allow us to run the farm as fluidly as a farm allows.  We have spent 1000s of hours developing relationships with hundreds of customers earning their trust and respect and support.

This is the year where all that comes together and we begin to LAUNCH this farm into a new phase.  This phase will quite honestly have an ultimate effect on our farm and t's very near future.  This is entirely driven by YOU -- our customer.

Our farm and the animals we raise rely on you doing a lot of weird stuff.  We know this.

  • We require you to realize that cheap food is a lie and that the prices we have become accustomed to at the store are only possible because of a huge embedded cost paid by the environment, the animals, our health and our future.
  • We force you to look outside of the grocery store for your meat.  To plan ahead and to buy your family's food before dinner is an imminent thought.
  • We ask you to cook.  Sounds weird.  But only 65% of meals are eaten at home in America and more is spent on food from restaurants than from grocery stores.  Our food is much higher quality than any food you'll buy at a restaurant and much cheaper when compared to similar restaurant bought meat, but it does require an investment of time in the kitchen.

But with all these requirements comes great benefits.  When you serve your family our food you have deep amount of certainty.

  • You know EXACTLY where and how your food was raised from the very beginning.
  • You are ASSURED that the cost of your food is supporting the type of farm that you value.
  • You can be CERTAIN that the meat you are feeding your family is the healthiest that you can feed them.
  • You FEEL GOOD because the food you are eating is nutritionally dense food.  Eating healthy is never a sacrifice.

This is where we take our farm's future and put it in your hands.  WIll you support the farm by making our meat a regular part of your family's meals?  Will you be weird enough to make the changes necessary to ensure a long life of our farm.  The only support that ensures this is buying the products we sell, even if it's just a little on a regular basis.

Every time you use your fork you are casting a vote for the type of farms we will have in the future. We have put all our chips on building a farm that raises healthy nutritious meat and connects with customers in a completely honest and transparent way.  Now, we wait anxiously to see if our customers will come through and ensure that they want farms like ours to continue raising animals in this way.  You cannot count on everyone else supporting the cause -- it has to come from you.

Even if you can't commit to spending 100% of your meat buying budget on honestly-grown, clean meat, then commit to serving one meal a month with food from our farm.  Or maybe one meal a week is do-able.  It'll make a difference in your health, it'll be delicious and it will ensure our farm can continue to grow more food in a way you want it to be grown.

Beneficial Bone Broth in the News

Bone broth is making the news again.  It's that time of year when a warm cup of tasty goodness starts to sound good to many people again.  I pretty much have a pot of broth simmering on the stove most days of the week.  If you haven't tried bone broth yet, this is a great time!  Not only do we have beef bones and pork bones, but we also have a few chickens available - so after you enjoy a great meal, you can use the bones to make a nutrient dense broth!  Yes, you can mix bones!

In this first article from Craig Fear guest posting to Azure Standard, he reviews the basics of making broth, how to store it, and shares a couple recipes that use broth.

The next article by the same author, featured on The Healthy Home Economist, details how to incorporate broth into your breakfast routines and why that is a good idea.  He shares more recipes and even shares a way to add broth to your oatmeal or eggs.

My favorite way to include broth is so simple and filling.

1.  Fill your cup 2/3 with broth and then pour it into a saucepan to warm that amount on medium-high.  This usually takes less than 3 minutes for mine to warm up.

2.  While waiting for it to warm up, sprinkle a little salt, pepper and optional desired spices into your cup.

3.  Pour the warmed broth into your cup and top the final 1/3 of your cup off with cold broth.  This gets the broth to drinkable temp right away, while still providing that deep warmth.

4.  Stir and enjoy!

Yes, homemade broth is more nutrient dense and yes, pasture raised animal bones are, too.  Get the best for your broth and enjoy the amazing benefits of a wonderful broth!
